Here is an easy shortcut to make a purchased pre-made pie crust look, well....more like homemade. My daughter wanted an apple pie so I pulled some apples out of the freezer that I put up from our fall harvest and threw together this caramel apple pie. I didn't use a recipe, just mixed some sugar, cinnamon, and butter with the apples. I dumped the apple mixture into a pre-made pie crust and poured caramel topping over the apples. I then took another pre-made crust and cut it into strips and laid it in a lattice pattern over the caramel apple mixture. I then took a knife and cut some leaves out of the leftover pie crust and then cut little veins into the leaves. Whalaaaa.....pre-made/homemade Caramel Apple Pie ! I guess you could even buy canned pie filling (hey, if we are going to cheat on the crust, we can cheat on the pie filling)
